The brown pelican, recognized by its long bill and expansive wingspan, is a prominent coastal inhabitant often spotted coasting at a steady speed 10-15 yards above the water's surface. The unmistakable form is just as recognizable perched on a piling, with it's head and pouch tucked, as portrayed in this illustration.
