Yellow Perch on the Wicomico

Yellow Perch on the Wicomico

They said when it’s time

Early Spring? Late Winter?

A new lure

And new line

And positive outlooks

Optimism fades

When lines stay slack

And it’s cold

And I’m wet

And “I’m doing this wrong”

They’re gone. “You missed it?

By now they’ve all left”

Yellow fins

Tinted red

As a fiery wing

But I’ll be back next year

Wicomico river

A new lure

And new line

And tempered expectations
